OK A-holes.  It's fixed.  Enjoy the orange links, because I have no fucking idea how to change them.  I basically learned scripting in four days to fix this damned thing. - Andy

Why is Tom Dreesen funny again? Wait, why is he funny for the first time? What did he do to get famous? He's the worst. Ever.

This is a very, very good point.  I positive this observation.

My wife and I were watching the game when Dreesen appeared on the screen.  We had wondered aloud how long it would take him to mention Sinatra.  First sentence out of his mouth (paraphrase) "I'm not nervous about singing the stretch...I did a lot of shows with Frank".  At least he's stopped calling him "Mr. Sinatra".  I guess he's been dead long enough that Dreesen can finally stop kissing his ass.  The worst.

Yes, he certainly comes off like a professional ass kisser.  I wonder if you can list that as an occupation for tax purposes?

He reminds me of Dave Kaplan.

I'll admit a little of that July fight was evident last night. I was certain that it was over at 2-0 and 100% positive it was over at 4-0. But they definitely didn't give up. Maybe it's a good sign. I'm not really getting my hopes up.

Football is a nice distraction right now.

Some combination of Z (for continuing to give up a run here and a run there every time the Cubs cut into the deficit) and Lou (for leaving him out there to do it) did a lot of the damage last night. Along with a total inability to get anyone on base against Aaron Harang ahead of the home runs.

Which is why I'm starting the Reginald Manson for #2 hitter parade. It's only slightly less gay than the gay parade. There will be a lot less people at it though.

Will there be condoms tossed at those at the parade?  That's what people really want to know.

I don't think the Brewers are bad at all.  They aren't playing well, but I'm not sure they can play any worse given their talent.  That lineup is scary, AL East type of deep...and that's not going to change bewteen now and the end of the season unless they have a pile of injuries.  My gut tells me they'll finish OK and clock in with 85-87 wins.  They'll get Sheets back, Gallardo and Vargas are both nice as well.  Bush has the "stuff" to be decent.  That bullpen has just killed them though.  It was lights out for two months, but has been brutal since June.  We all know how that works.  It has to get better for them.  Milwaukee is my favorite to win this thing right now.

On the other hand, I don't see the Cardinals getting to 85 wins.  They'd have to play like .625 ball the rest of the way to get there.  That pitching staff is just awful from top to bottom.  Even if Mulder comes back, I don't see how they do that for a 45 game stretch.  Their only hope, is that the Cubs and Brewers both continue to play this way for the next six weeks.  They don't have good enough arms to run off a stretch of like 17 out of 20.

Which brings us to the Cubs.  They can win 85 games.  But right now, there is just no consistency from anyone not named Theriot, Fontenot, or Lilly.   The rotation has been shaky, and this lineup without Soriano just isn't very good.   They grossly underachieved in April and May, and they played way over their heads in June and July.  Unlike the Cardinals, we at least know they have the potential to get hot for 3 or 4 weeks...because the requisite talent is present in the pitching staff.

Honestly, on paper, I don't think this team is quite as good as Milwaukee.  I don't think this club will able to limp for the next 6 weeks and stay within a few games...so they need to get their shit in order, like tonight.   And I don't know what the easy answer is other than Zambrano and Hill pitching up to their capabilities.  The roster just isn't all that great.  A .500 team is just about what I expected at the start of the season...so I'm not going to expect a whole lot more down the stretch.

He's now free to explore other employment opportunities around the league as a result of this meltdown.  The Shaun Marcum introductory conference call is scheduled for 4PM...for those who are interested.

This is an all-too familiar reminder of The Andy Sonnanstine Saga the SD Cripplers went through.  We also fondly remember Kevin Slowey's cup of coffee.  This week -- its the tag team of Paul Maholm and Kyle Kendrick!

I sincerely hope you have 80 teams in your league, or a roster size of 1,200 to be screwing with guys like that.  Eeesh.

Keep in mind, it's never too early to get started on the Rick VandenHurk era.

Sonnanstine and Slowey got looks on my Dynasty team because its a keeper league.  I (dumbly) thought I could squeeze a lil' upside out of either guy.  I can't tell you what I got out of them when I squeezed.  It was sort of like the cyst that kept me bedridden for 3 weeks in July.

Maholm and Kendrick, on the other hand, are soaking up spots on my 14-team private league.  I had to drop Michael Barrett to get one of them.  Yes.  That's right.  THAT Michael Barrett.  Oh, how humiliating.  I was forced to keep him on before Saltalamacchia was traded since Bobby Cox is a fuckwit (sitting both Saltalamacchia AND! Kelly Johnson).

So, my rotation now reads:  Peavy/Zambrano/Shields/Capuano/Suppan/Kendrick/Maholm/Sonnanstine/Burnett/Harden

I dumped Shields two weeks ago after that debacle in New York.

I smell fraud.

Looks like the Brewers aren't going to have a late inning melt down today. They're down 8-0 in the 3rd.

It could still happen. Oh ye of little faith.

I meant a late inning melt down that lead to another come from behind loss. Dillion had a lead off triple in the top of the 3rd and he pulled out the Cubs' Runner on 3rd with no outs Lawn Chair TM watched the rest of the inning from there.

It's 11-0 now and they just pulled Gallardo.

I want to personally thank Yovani for inflicting some serious-ass damage this afternoon to my 1st place standing in my fantasy baseball league.

2.2 IP, 11 earnies.

Yes, you are all right.  The reason for the Cubs' recent poor play is Matt Murton's .286 average and .375 OBP since returning from Iowa.

You're right.

That's a much bigger problem than other issues...like the fact that all of our pitchers now refuse to occasionally turn their heads when the other team has runners on base.  Holding baserunners is a waste of time.

I'm sure someone will attribute that philosophy to Mike Barrett.

Bump.

Overnight parking in Wrigleyville. I'm looking for a garage or private lot. Is there a place I can look online and find them?

I've got a hotel room to stay in. I just don't have a parking space there. Would it even be easier, cheaper to park someplace else and take the Red Line?

Help?

This is a confusing set of facts.

Where are you staying?

As someone who grew up, and went to college in Cincinnati, I am compelled to defend it by saying that it's a far less awful place than Detroit, Cleveland, and Atlanta.

And yes, I DO know what the say about who rules in the land of the blind.

The Reds are awful.  We should sweep these guys.

Is the Phil Rogers' time machine anything like the George Michael (the unghey one) Sports Machine?  Because, if so, I want to climb aboard right now!

Doesn't some fairly hot chick do a lot of the highlights on the Sports machine now?
I'm not sure she even qualifies as 'fairly hot', but I'd still hit it.
