OK A-holes.  It's fixed.  Enjoy the orange links, because I have no fucking idea how to change them.  I basically learned scripting in four days to fix this damned thing. - Andy

Jason Bay is very optimistic about the Pirates this year.

http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-080203-rogers-baseball-cubs-pitching,1,5830553.column

QuotePirates outfielder Jason Bay isn't exactly counting the days until he gets to camp in Bradenton, Fla. That's because rookie GM Neal Huntington made only minimal adjustments to the roster that produced a 68-94 record last season.

"It's pretty obvious that this group of guys is not going to get it done," Bay said. "Some people think if we get to .500, that would be great, and that would be a nice pat on the back. I'm not saying we're terrible, but it's going to take a lot of things going right to do some things."

Don't be surprised if Bay winds up elsewhere before the season is over. He's right on with his analysis, but the front office would prefer something it could use in an advertising campaign. And does "I'm not saying we're terrible" have a ring to it?

Brilliant show.

Meant to bring this up, finally saw the final episode on BBC.

The end was kind of disturbing. Are we ready to talk about it?

We did.

QuoteThe Cardinals first baseman and a Most Valuable Player award winner was calm, pointed and clearly irritated as he spoke publicly Monday for the first time about an erroneous news report in December that linked him to an investigation on the use of performance-enhancing drugs in professional baseball.

"I know we're in a dark cloud of steroids, (but) now people are going to second-guess my numbers because of some guy starting something that wasn't the truth," Pujols said. "I know I will forgive whoever did it. I forgive them. But there is nothing they can do to clean this up.

"They ruined my image."

QuoteHe hopes the elbow will improve as much, too, but added he doesn't plan to play through that level of pain again.

"I was in pain. I was in pain," said Pujols, who led the team with 32 home runs, in 158 games. "After May, I just felt it was hurting and it was hurting pretty bad. … If that same problem is happening this year, I don't think I'm going to play the whole year the same way. I sacrificed my body. That's how I put it.

"I'm telling myself that I ain't going through the same pain that I went through last year."

QuotePujols was especially irked by a local news station that spun WNBC's report into the focus of an hour newscast. Before talking with the local media Monday, Pujols asked the Cardinals' media relations staff to have the station, KTVI (Channel 2), leave the room. The station removed its camera, and Pujols explained that "they're going to have to pay for that."

For someone near retirement age he sure cries like a baby.

I couldn't believe Ned brought in McLung to hit Pujols.  He had McLung and Turdthrow both warming up at the same time.  You knew what he was going to do.  Somebody on baseball primer pointed out that as bad as Turdthrow has been he's tragically terrible when entering a game with runners on (something like 6.23 ERA for the entire season...even with his "good" start to the season included).  So you guarantee that Pujols will be on first when that mouthbreathin' dope comes in.  Ned might as well have pulled the stock on the floodgates on his way to the clubhouse after that move.

Now it's down to this.  If the Cubs lose the rest of their games they'll probably have to play a one-gamer at Wrigley.  If they win one, they'll win the division.

Not exactly the most graceful way to win it, but who gives a shit?

The Brewers recap says that in Turdthrow's August/September outings, he's allowed 12 of 14 inherited runners to score.  Wow.

MVP! MVP! MVP!

Bump. I <3 Turnblow. Cubs MVP.

Holy shit, that guy is the opposite of good.

He's not good. He's great. He's a magician out there. He turns leads into deficits with the greatest of ease. Thank you again Turd Throw. Keep up the good work.

A couple of stories from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinal

http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=665342

QuoteYou hate the Cubs because they're from Chicago, period. No other excuses needed. But, just in case, you hate them even more when they start pulling out games in the ninth inning and you watch and hear those Wrigley Field fans who have suddenly put down their cell phones and covered up their tank tops and roar for - good grief, can there be any nickname in baseball lamer than this - the "Cubbies."

So what if they've waited around a century for another World Series title in Yuppieville, Wrigleyville or whatever they call that neighborhood of bars and a ballpark on Chicago's north side.

He's a little testy, isn't he?

QuoteAn MRI performed in Milwaukee revealed Sheets has a slight strain of his left hamstring. The Brewers held off scratching Sheets from his scheduled turn Sunday against Atlanta, but it is doubtful he will make that start.

Depending on how quickly he recovers, Sheets might not pitch again this season, which would be a severe blow to the Brewers' chances of overtaking the Chicago Cubs and winning the National League Central title. Beyond the start against the Braves, he was scheduled to pitch the second game of the season-ending home series against San Diego.

Sheets flew back to Milwaukee because the "cramp" in his hamstring had gotten worse overnight, meaning it's not a cramp, but probably a tear.  That said, Ned was on the phone with Midwest Express arranging a flight for Ben had the game gone into the 12th or 13th.

It's just a cramp. They always do MRIs for cramps.

QuoteHOUSTON (AP) -- Brewers ace Ben Sheets traveled back to Milwaukee on Wednesday for an MRI exam on his injured left hamstring.

Sheets left Tuesday night's game in Houston after one inning because of tightness in the hamstring. He was still in pain after the game.

How about Butchie Yost bringing in Matt Wise to pitch the 10th. What. A. Moron.

First taking out Braun for defense was interesting, I think he did that a little too soon. But Matt Wise? He of a 10 ERA in his last 10 outings? He of a 7 ERA since the ASB? He who isn't good?

Butchie is doing his best to give the Cubs their second division title in five years.

I thought they were great moves. Yost is doing a great job. Keep it up Ned.

Lilly is a stone cold serial killer. Big positive for the way he pitched last night. It's a shame that he didn't get the win.

I think he's earned a pizza.

He's turning into a legend in his own time. I hope he pitches in every game for the rest of the season.

Trib says that Cuban was sitting in the bleachers last night.  Guess he picked a pretty good game to watch.

QuoteThe Cubs retained their one-game lead over Milwaukee, while temporarily turning Wrigley Field into the world's biggest mosh pit.

"Well, that was exciting, huh?" manager Lou Piniella said.

A crowd of 39,075, including prospective owner Mark Cuban, who was watching from the right-field bleachers, would wholeheartedly agree.

Warning the link is to a Mariotti article, but is does have a picture of Cuban in the bleachers.
