Phildo's legacy of hard-hitting analysis is in good hands at the Trib.

Quote from: Paul SullivanIn a down year, Konerko ($2.5 mil) had 12 home runs and 54 RBIs in 2013. Ellsbury ($153 mil) had nine home runs and 53 RBIs.

I'm pretty sure he was kidding.

He most definitely was.

I think he was too, now. I also think Ellsbury is 29 and has a sordid injury history and may not be worth the neighorhood the Yanks have put him in contract-wise. But I agree, they can afford it and admit I don't give a rat's ass.

The last sentence is the main point and really all that matters. But his injury history is overblown, I think. His two major injuries came from weird on-field collision things, not any sort of strain/sprain/wear-and-tear stuff.

Anyway, the contract makes sense for the Yankees and probably not for anyone else.

It's not as if the Yankees overpaying for guys is going to have any effect on the Cubs. At least until they re-sign Cano and leave a gaping hole at Cubs' 2B and in Chuck's heart.

Also, the picture of Kerm wearing Sullivan's vagrant clothes might make me laugh every time I see it for the rest of my life.

I really need a copy of that picture.  Sully's computer was the most terrible thing to come from the Tribune since Steve Rosenbloom.  I would have been doing him a FAVOR if I broke it.

Pretty sure the picture was taken with your phone.  God I hope you didn't erase it.

It's super-blurry, sadly.  I was hoping there was another one.  Anyhow, here's this terrifying one.  I can't believe I fit into his jacket.

It's time to argue about year end lists.  Now obviously, these are published mostly to "generate discussion" (troll everyone), but the Tribune's is notable in that it seemingly makes no sense.

Notable inclusions/exclusions:

Notre Dame getting blown out by Alabama
One of the most exciting/weird/dramatic Super Bowls in history is not included
A Notre Dame basketball game
Every Bears game in the last two months
Game 6 of the Hawks/Red Wings series but NOT Game 7
The Women's Figure Skating Championships being won in what appears to be that sport's equivalent of a blowout
A high school basketball game
A college baseball game
Nothing from the BP CUP SERIES?!?

Seriously, this has to be the work of David Haugh.
